TSS, Other Ways Cultivate Red Onion

Onion seeds or often referred to as TSS are botanical onion seeds produced from umbel flowers / umbel are old (planting about four months) and processed as a seed. The advantages of TSS, among others, input on the seeds of red onion cheaper than the bulbs is the difference between Rp.13.000.000 - Rp. 23,000,000 per hectare. In addition, the longer shelf life compared to the bulbs as well as facilitate in terms of transport. TSS becomes one of the alternatives in overcoming the scarcity of high quality onion tuber seed. The use of TSS has a higher production potential of about> 20 tons / ha, and seeds are healthier because of the accumulation of tubular tubular pathogens such as fungi, viruses and bacteria.

BPTP Balitbangtan Jakarta has also tested several varieties of onion TSS (Maserati, Pancasona, Trisula and Tuktuk) in the office yard, in the following way: a) Prepare the planting medium with composition: Soil (1): Chicken Pam (1), b) cut crop seedlings +/- 1/3 part, c) move seedlings on polybag size 30 with amount of 3 plants per polybag, d) sprinkle TSP fertilizer with dose 3 gr / polybag at plant move, e) fertilizer application followed by NPK 3gr / polybag at 2 weeks after planting, f) NPK follow-up of 3 gr / polybag at 4 weeks after planting, g) harvest after +/- 4 months (starting from seedlings).

Until now, the use of TSS at the farm level still faces obstacles, the cultivation of onion using tuber seed is easier and more practical while the cultivation of onion seed seed requires maintenance persistence, especially in the early phase of its growth. In addition, the percentage of live onion that is directly grown on the ground from seed is still very low (> 50%).
